There are a number of factors to consider when choosing a laminator. First, think about the size of items you'll be laminating. Will they be standard A4 size, or will you need to laminate either larger items, or smaller ones such as business cards? Check the laminating width, as we've highlighted in our choices above, to make sure the laminator will accommodate your needs.
You also need to consider cost: not just the price of the laminator, but the ongoing cost of the sheets you need to feed it. That said, when it comes to valuable documents and precious memories, you should also think about the cost of not laminating them!
Finally, think about how often you'll need to use your laminator. If it's just going to be the occassional job, pretty much any basic laminator will do. But if you're going to be laminating lots of things in one session, or sharing the laminator in a busy workplace or classroom, you'll need something a bit more powerful and expensive, as some of the cheaper options may be less reliable.

Reality sets in. Laminators cost money. You have to buy pouches. What the heck are pouches anyway? I already have access to a laminator at work. Husband gives me the side-eye as I browse laminators online. I do not NEED a laminator at my house. Fine.
Enter My Binding. Guess what? They want to GIVE me a laminator for my blog. Say what? YES, PLEASE! Did you hear the choir singing in the background or was that just me? A few days later this glorious box appeared.
OMG! Isn't having a laminator at home AMAZING? I bought one at the end of last school year, and I have been happily printing and laminating for the past month. My friends who aren't teachers think I'm crazy. Hope you enjoy your laminator as much as I love mine!
I just bought one a few weeks ago and fell in love! No more going to school to laminate over the summer and it is a way better quality than the school one too!!! ?Enjoy your laminator!JessicaFabulous and Fun 4th Graders
Okay now I'm the one that is jealous after reading your emotional ( I so related) blog and the other comments saying how much they love having a laminator. I too have done the side ways glance! Which one did you get? I didn't realize there were so many choices!Pauline
Thanks for sharing! I'm been struggling with the idea of buying a laminator too. I feel like it's going to be one more thing to have to keep up with. But I still want one! I will have to check yours out!
I was just contemplating running up to school to get the laminator I share with my podmates. I love laminating at home and watching Netflix at the same time! AlisonRockin' and Lovin' Learnin'
Love my laminator. I have a Scotch Laminator from Wal-Mart. $25 and awesome! I get my laminating paper from Sam's Club (200 sheets) for $20 and one box lasts me forever and def. much thicker than school lamination!
I have my own personal laminator and I love it!!! I couldn't imagine life without it. I use my school one for huge items or ones that I don't really care about the thickness, but for my centers and items that kids are going to touch a lot, I use my personal one. I have the 3M one and the lamination is so thick and nice!
With pouch lamination, you buy a pack of pouches and slip sheets into the pouches then feed the pouches through the laminator. This is easier and the stock standard for home laminators. But, pouches are more expensive unfortunately.
The Tamerica Versa Lam 1300 roll laminator is a great solution for businesses who need the efficiency and speed of a roll lamination machine, without the extra width that other machines offer; the 13" wide opening allows for all of the most common office document sizes. This unit easily handles roll film with a 1" or 3" core and a maximum of 8" diameter. It creates a crystal clear lamination with high-quality silicone rollers, and can laminate at speeds up to 4 feet per minute. In addition to the great finish quality of lamination, the Versalam 1300 will also work with mounting boards up to 3/16" thick. It offers both two-side and one-side laminating*, and heavy duty all-metal construction. If your office needs a quick way to laminate and mount smaller items with a professional-quality, consider the Tamerica Versa Lam 1300.
Depending on the film types and thicknesses you're running, some laminators won't work for you. The major difference here is the way the sheets are separated. Some laminators, such as the PODTopic series, have a flying knife, which makes it perfect for running and effectively separating thick and hard-to-burst films such as PETpro (polyester) and NYpro (nylon). The Bagel Systems line on the other hand is optimized for thin-gauge films and utilizes the bursting method. This means that it can run at significantly higher speeds because there's no mechanical limitation.
The embellishment processes that you're using on your print can also determine the laminator that you choose. For example, if you're running SLEEKpro digital foil and spot embellishments, you'll need to make sure the laminator has a take-up mandrel to rewind the scrap from this process.
Are you typically running single-sided or 2-sided applications? Traditionally, thin-gauge applications were done by flipping and turning, but advancements in technology have allowed us to use specialty laminators to do both sides at once.
The key is to make sure that you choose a laminator that aligns with your plans for future growth in your print business, and we can help with that. Contact our sales team at firstname.lastname@example.org, or give us a call at 1.888.820.9020 and we'll be in touch with you.
Having necessary school supplies and materials helps to make the school year a success. The supplies in this project will provide my students will the materials that are necessary for the day to day activities and work that will take place in our classroom. I am requesting items that are truly "the basics". We will use the laminator and laminating sheets to protect their work. The Edison Robot will be used in our ECS class. We need several of these.
